Mapping Sea Level Rise
Come learn about the purpose of Catch the King and how to use the Sea Level Rise App so that you can participate in this record breaking community science event!
Catch the King is a crowdsourced community science event that invites local volunteers to collect flooding data using the Sea Level Rise app during a "king tide" event - the highest tides of the year. Visit wetlandswatch.org/catchtheking to learn more about the event.
Tidal flooding is a major environmental, health, and safety issue for coastal communities because it causes damage to infrastructure, poses travel safety risks, and is a moving pathway for runoff and other debris. Floods are becoming more severe and more frequent due to climate change and rising sea levels. Virginia's Hampton Roads residents are on track to experience nuisance "flood days" for one-third of the year by 2050. We need your help to collect data on where it floods so that local planners, researchers, and floodplain managers can implement solutions in the right places!
